How to Reduce a PDF’s File Size

Most users can quickly shrink their PDF using tools they already have, or by using free online options.

1. Using Adobe Acrobat Pro (Paid Version)

If you have a paid Adobe Acrobat license:

  • Open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Go to File → Save As Other → Reduced Size PDF.

  • Save the compressed file and upload it to TaxPlanIQ.

2. Using Mac Preview (Mac Users)

If you’re on a Mac:

  • Open the PDF in Preview.

  • Go to File → Export.

  • In the pop-up window, select Quartz Filter → Reduce File Size.

  • Save and re-upload the reduced file.

3. Free Online Tools (Quick and Easy)

If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Pro:

Other reputable PDF compressors are available, but we recommend Adobe’s free tool for security and simplicity.

What do We Read?

In the RAP process, our system reads and analyzes key tax documents to identify planning opportunities and strategy triggers. Specifically, it currently reads the Form 1040 and its supporting schedules and forms, including Schedules 1, 2, 3, A, C, D, E, F, and SE, as well as Forms 4137, 8889, 6765, 8582, 8949, and 8990. These documents collectively capture income adjustments, business and farm activities, rental and investment income, deductions, self-employment tax, and other critical data points used to propose applicable tax strategies. By scanning these specific forms, the software ensures that the advisor’s tax plan is grounded in accurate taxpayer data and aligned with IRS reporting categories.

Please note that we cannot process documents with partial or unconventional redactions. All redactions must be completed using a professional redaction tool (such as Adobe Acrobat), or you may upload the unredacted version and we will handle the redactions internally. Additionally, the RAP reader currently supports individual tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules) only. It does not process business returns such as Forms 1065, 1120, or 1120-S. However, it does read pass-through items from those business returns that flow onto the taxpayer’s Form 1040 through schedules such as Schedule E or Schedule K-1.
